Commemorative Trees

Remembrances and Honor

Our Commemorative Tree program is evident throughout Manchester By-the-Seat, on our streets and in our parks and cemeteries.  Since our founding, the Friends of Manchester Trees has planted commemorative trees on behalf of our donors who wish to honor someone important to them, whether a family member, good friend, or special town official or volunteer. These remembrances provide a living memorial to celebrate someone special.  At the same time, the entire community enjoys the beauty and benefits of a vibrant tree canopy in our town.

Request a Commemorative Tree

1. We ask for a $525 donation to cover most, but not all, of the costs to purchase, plant, and care for a Commemorative Tree.  We will work with you and the honored person or family member to determine an appropriate location, size, and tree species. FOMT then applies to the Manchester Department of Public Works for permission to plant the tree on town property.  The Friends will water and care for the tree for the next three years, until it is established. We also install a plaque, as shown below, which includes a QR code that provides the name of the donor and the honoree, and shows the tree on a GPS map of Manchester.

You will receive a receipt for your donation (fully tax-deductible, because nothing of value is being provided to you) and the recipient's family will be informed as well.

To request a Commemorative Tree, please complete our online Request Form below and include the plaque inscription wording on the form, noting the character spacing limits.

Below is a picture of one of our plaques.
